Signs of 'The Times'

Hope you liked the pun in the title, but maybe you didn't notice, or don't quite understand... do read on!

Just realising that I never wrote back about the debate, so I should do that very quickly. In summary, it went very well, with the motion of God not existing being overturned. As a result of the debate there has been some chat around campus, as many people (around 300) attended the event, and many others heard about it also. We are eagerly waiting to see what the newspaper will say, in the hope that this will stir even more conversation regarding this topic. Thanks for the support and prayers - it was also really encouraging to see how many people came together to pray for this event, with a great sense of unity.

Another CU related issue - you may have noticed the article in The Times (get the title now?) about Christian Unions being disaffiliated with their Student Bodies and generally causing a bit of a stir. I've included some links to national and local newspaper that have recently published articles about this, as well as UCCF's response. I think it's really important that we get together on this issue too and pray into it and support our fellow Christians who are having bother, and remember that God is gracious, so we should be too.

On our own affiliation status - Strathclyde CU is NOT affiliated with our Students' Union, due to our Statement of Faith being 'exclusive'. This does strip us of the privledges of financial aid from the Union, and we're not allowed to publicise in the Union buildings, but we still maintain relatively good relationships with the Union, so our status doesn't case the same level of concern. Reaffiliation has been something that was discussed at committee meetings, but have decided not to proceed this time. Our last attempt to reaffilate (last year) was rejected, and would only be reconsidered if we changed our constitution.

Hope this one hasn't been too dull for you!
